San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance connected with a 76-yard deep landing pass to wide rookie catcher Danny Gray during last week’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers. It appears the connection wasn’t an anomaly, as Lance and Gray re-connected during Wednesday morning’s joint rehearsal with the Minnesota Vikings at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan, Minnesota. The wideout rookie was going up against Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Here are three perspectives on the deep touchdown pass from practice. The first shows the throwing and shooting in the field in the distance at the end of the video.

The second is a better look from Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Here’s another take on The Athletic’s Matt Barrows.

After the preseason game against the Packers, Lance shared what he was thinking about the touchdown pass to Gray.

“Throw it to the fast guy,” Lance said. “Danny did a great job. He did a great job all over the court. Just that he’s healthy, of course, is a factor that makes a difference for us in attack. His speed is something I’ve had maybe another time in my life (Christian Watson at NDSU) So for me he’s a fun guy to have – a fun guy for the receiver room too. Just help the tree of the way and have the defenses defend the whole field . “

On Thursday the 49ers and Vikings will hold a second joint training session. Their pre-season match is scheduled for Saturday night at US Bank Stadium.
