Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet Announces Former Cabinet Secretary, Shri PK Sinha, as National Advisor for India

NEW DELHI | 9 SEPTEMBER 2022 – The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) announces that Shri PK Sinha has joined as a non-executive consultant for the country, supporting India’s plans to achieve a quick and just energy transition.

This key event is a significant milestone for the Alliance to play its strongest role in supporting the Indian people and government with this complex but crucial national imperative. As GEAPP’s Country Adviser for India, Mr. Sinha will support efforts together with the Indian GEAPP team and global management to assist the Indian government in achieving its goals.

Mr. Sinha, who retired from government in March 2021 after 44 years of continuous service, has worked in senior roles in India’s energy ministries and many major public sector enterprises. She will act as an ambassador for GEAPP and provide strategic guidance in the Alliance’s mission in support of India’s energy transition strategy.

GEAPP is expanding its strategy in India with its partners to support multiple aspects of the transition where it can be additive, including scaling of distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions such as mini-grids and solar panels on roofs in hard-to-reach areas. and in catalyzing business and SME demand, the use of electricity to improve the viability of off-grid business models and to stimulate jobs and livelihoods.

Shri PK Sinha Biography

Shri PK Sinha joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1977 after completing his Masters in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics in 1976. He graduated with honors in Economics from St. Stephens College in Delhi. During his service, he completed his M.Phil in Social Sciences in 1991 and was Visiting Fellow at Oxford University in 1999. He has also attended prestigious programs, such as, on ‘Mergers and Acquisitions’ at Stanford University and on’ Leaders in Development ‘at Harvard University.

Shri Sinha has extensive administrative experience and has served at the central and state government levels. In his formative years, he served in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) but served primarily in the Indian government and rose to the top position of cabinet secretary, chief of public services. He served as Cabinet Secretary for just over 4 years, before moving to the Prime Minister’s Office as Chief Advisor to the PM. He retired from there in March 2021 after 44 years of continued service to the nation.

The important positions he has held in UP are the district magistrate, Agra; Vice President, Meerut Development Authority; Additional CEO Greater Noida Authority; Commissioner, Varanasi Division; Secretariat, Planning; and Chief Secretary, Irrigation.

By virtue of his experience, he has developed particular skills in the areas of Energy, Infrastructure and Finance. In the Indian government, he worked mainly in the energy and oil and gas (petroleum) ministries. Between these two ministries he worked for about 15 years. Notable positions held at Gov’t of India include Financial Advisor, Petroleum and Natural Gas; Secretariat, Ports and Shipping; and Secretary, Power.
